“We ought to talk less and draw more. I personally, should like to renounce speech altogether and, like organic nature, communicate everything I have to say in sketches.” Goethe, Italian Journey

Mariana sees pattern design as visual poetry: interweaving narrative with ornament, rhythm with symmetry, and line with shape and color. It is simply the love of beauty that inspires her, whether found in the frescoed chambers of Livia at Primaporta, or the splendid and monumental forms of a lily.

She grew up painting in her family's studio, assisting on projects including an architectural mural for the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (https://jameslangley.com).

She is currently fortunate to see her designs come to life on a rich array of silks and linens, working closely with Lily Lewin, the founder and visionary behind textile and fashion house Tulicarpa (https://tulicarpa.com).

Mariana received her MA in Textile Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
