Goldenrod
Goldenrod
“With its unmistakable shock of ochre flaming amongst summer’s last stubble, I can never resist the loveliness of goldenrod as it lines the roads and fields. It is a little trumpet to the last swarms of bees and beetles before winter's chill. Somehow it is never blooming except under open skies, cloudless and blue.”
One in a series of four prints, tracing the life of native flora from seed or root to flower. Each painting is a study of a branch or bloom suspended in time - drawn from life and captured quickly before its vivifying force withers and deadens. Transparent watercolor washes reflect the exquisite palette and form of each flower.
